FRIDAY THE 13TH - how is fear of the number thirteen demonstarted? More than 80 percent of high-rises lack a 13th floor. Many airports skip the 13th gate. Airplanes have no 13th aisle. Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13. Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery. On streets in Florence, Italy, the house between number 12 and 14 is addressed as 12 and a half. Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue In France, socialites known as the quatorziens (fourteeners) once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate. Many triskaidekaphobes, as those who fear the unlucky integer are known, point to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13. If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck . Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names. - Dexter by khan7290

    Sons-of-the Soil policy:

Some political out-fits affirm their faith based on region.  They are concerned for the welfare of the sons of the soil and argue for preferential treatment to them.  They create differences between a son and a daughter.

Soil, the Mother Earth,is full of impurity but has a pure mind.  Insects, worms, rodents etc. are Her children.  Godess Eath treats everyone equal, son or daughter, without any distinction.

In this context, it is not understood who is more pragmatic, silent Mother Earth or vociferous  politicians.

Son-of-the-soil is defined as a native, a worker or a dweller of a country and not of a region or district.  Can we get a diferent version that denotes only  sons and daugheters of a particular region?

While I was a student back in the 70s I had an addict for a roommate.Once sitting on his bed he was munching peanuts. One of my classmate happened to enter our room who popped a handful of those peanuts into his mouth. My roommate was enraged, but cool and nice he commented'if you eat like that you will go to latrine' the other guy says' as if i don't everyday' My roommate retorted 'if you eat leke that you will go to latttrine tomorrow'

Since then whenever Iwant to sress something I always add a couple of alphabets more!

Thats why my blog dessert storm contains one more 's'

The extra alphabet brought a comment from one of my friends

In the coastal part of karnataka and north kerala there live a people called havyaka brahmins.well educated but politically unrecognised.

the wonderful aspect of thier life is traditional arranged marriages.

there is no demand of any kind on the brides, either cash, gold,or even how the wedding should be conducted.

since they are traditionally agriculturists they lead hands to mouth life, ofcourse prosperiry is making them citybound.

ny worth looking into the life of a havyaka brahmin!

We have gotr so used to using articles without bothering about our carbon footprint. Think about this

    * A typical school student uses one ballpoint refill in 2 days. And a typical school has about 1000 students who use ball pens. That adds up to 1000 empty plastic refills every 2 days or 15000 refills per month or about 100000 refills per year per school.
